Celebrating a Birthday in Quarantine

Everyone looks forward to birthdays: they’re days where you get to celebrate your transition to a new phase in your life and because everyone has them every year, there’s even more exciting. This year, however, many people will celebrate their birthdays in the comfort of their homes due to isolation measures. This means that for many, there will be no grand parties, birthday dinners or trips with friends. Naturally, some might feel disappointed by this, not only for the celebrants but for their loved ones who would have loved to celebrate them. If you have a friend or family member who will be turning a new age in social distancing, try the following tips:

  1. Call-in: One of the hardest aspects of social distancing is the sense of isolation that many people feel and this can hit even harder if someone is alone on their birthday. If you have a loved one celebrating their birthday during this time, make sure to call them on their special day and remind them how much you care for them. You could conference call with several friends and give a show of support as well as wish them a happy birthday.

  2. Reflect: While you might not be physically present with your loved one during this time, you can always reflect on the times you did have before lockdown. Consider making a virtual scrapbook of your favorite memories together or compiling a list of things you love about them and giving it to them. This helps you not only appreciate the past but look to the future.

  3. Send a gift: The good thing about the digital age is that you don’t have to be physically close to a person to give them a gift. There is a wealth of things you could give to a loved one celebrating a birthday, from having a cake or gift delivered to their home or giving them a digital gift card to enjoy once lockdown is over.

  4. Throw a virtual party: Nothing stops the party, not even lockdown orders! Virtual birthday parties are becoming more and more popular. Speak with your friends and decide on a time and date to host a virtual party and make your loved one’s day all the more special.

Lockdown does not mean the end of birthday festivities. On the contrary, your loved one will feel even more special should you follow our helpful tips to celebrate them even in lockdown.
