Preserving Your Mental Health During Lockdown

One of the biggest complaints that have emerged from the ongoing lockdown is the effect that it has had on mental health. This is because millions of people have seen their daily routine halted with offices, shops, restaurants, and other recreational centers closing down and people being confined to their homes. This means a sense of boredom, being trapped and loneliness, all of which could have negative effects on mental health. But being at home doesn’t mean that your mental health should go into decline. Here are a few ways to keep your spirits up during lockdown:

  1. Moods and meditation: While you might not be able to experience the outside world, you can make sure that your immediate surroundings are uplifting and stimulating. Open your curtains and windows to let fresh air in, clean up your home and play some music. You might also want to consider meditating, journaling or some other daily mental health exercise to keep your juices flowing.

  2. Exercise: A brief walk down the street as part of your daily exercise, a run on the treadmill or an hour of yoga. Physical exercise has an immense number of benefits for the mind through the release of endorphins. Choose a daily activity to keep your mind alert.

  3. Interact: Lockdown can be lonely as we are often separated from our friends and family. While you might not be able to see them physically, you do not have to be lonely. Call, text and video-call your loved ones as much as possible. You could even schedule a call with certain loved ones on a daily basis at a specific time to make sure that you keep up. This time of isolation could even be used to reach out to old friends you have lost contact with.

Your mental health is of the utmost importance, especially during a lockdown. Follow our helpful tips to stay sane and thrive during the lockdown.
