Dating While Distancing: Date Night Ideas During Lockdown

Just a few weeks ago, the world was in the swing of Valentine’s Day and lovers from all walks of life swarmed restaurants, movie theaters and all sorts to celebrate the day of love. Currently, most of the world is practicing social distancing due to the COVID-19 outbreak and as a result, lovers have found themselves either separated in different places or homebound for the foreseeable future. Romance, however, is not dead and despite the lockdown, you and your significant other can enjoy a myriad of incredible date nights.

  1. Skype dates: Even if you and your partner cannot see each other physically, you can always interact in the virtual world. One of the benefits of technology is that you can connect with practically anyone at the push of a button. Take advantage of this by having video call dates with your partner. You can screen-share and watch a film at the same time or have dinner while speaking to each other. While it might not be the same as being together in person, it can foster a sense of intimacy.

  2. Movie nights: If you and your partner are social distancing in the same house, you can take advantage of this and plan movie nights at home. Decide on a film ahead of time, make your own snacks and enjoy your film. To make things more interesting, you could make a list of films such as classic romantic comedies to get through while in isolation or watch with another couple who are also isolating together on Netflix Party. Netflix Party can synchronize video playback and adds group chat to your favorite Netflix shows.

  3. Game nights: Shake things up and get a little competitive by having a couples game night in your home. Whether it be board games, quizzes or video games, a bit of competitive fun can be a good way to pass the time and bond with your significant other.

  4. Homecooked dinners: Since most restaurants are closed in compliance with government guidelines, most people are having to prepare their own meals. Far from a chore, this can be used to infuse some romance into your relationship. You and your partner can choose to cook together as a fun activity or you may treat them to a special homecooked meal as part of a date night. Good old Jamie Oliver has just the recipe's to spice up your romantic nights in!

While in isolation, you can enjoy a variety of dates with your significant other, whether they are in the same home with you or far away.
